Locking Doors in Bju Residence Halls

Considering recent shootings happening around the country, many students I know are very concerned about a specific problem within the resident halls. I am concerned for the safety of students if an active shooter was able to gain access to the residence halls. Because of poor security within the residence halls themselves, there is very little we as students could do in this situation. I feel like students’ lives are in danger because of this lack of security. I believe that there is one simple solution to this lack of security. If the university were to install locks, whether electronic or keyed, on the doors in the residence halls student’s safety would be greatly improved. At a place like Bob Jones University, the danger of this situation is elevated by the increasing hatred of our society towards Christians. Not only would this greatly increase security from an outside danger, it would also remove petty theft and other issues that revolve around students being in another student’s room.
