The NCAA continues to levy inconsistent, arbitrary, and often illegitimate punishments against student athletes, coaches, and academic institutions. Every year the list of objectively repugnant rulings increases and they are met critically by national experts and law makers. Yet, the NCAA continues to brush off any critique of it's ambiguous judicial process with apathy and anecdotal short stories filled with fallacy and often smugness.

It is clear that the NCAA has no clear and concise handbook in which to determine law and order within the institutions that they  manage. At every turn there are severe penalties for minor offenses and major violators are often treated with limited reparations. When asked for explanations as to why certain rulings are made the NCAA continues to be able to give sufficient evidence to the either courts of public opinion or to the defendant, be they the University, athlete, coach, or administrator.

Recently, the NCAA handed out an objectively severe penalty to Oklahoma State University for violations involving a former assistant coach. The penalty came after the University was named in an FBI investigation that involved a multitude of other public universities. In the investigation it was found that basketball coaches at certain universities were facilitating impermissible benefits to student athletes through third parties like The Adidas Company.

In regards to Oklahoma State's involvement, the NCAA admitted there was no fault by university as the sin was committed by a former employee no longer involved with the school. Both the FBI and the NCAA maintain that this employee acted without the knowledge of anyone at the school including his peers on the coaching staff.

However, despite these facts, the NCAA proceeded to bring down a judgement that was inarguably too harsh for the conviction given. When asked for further transparency into the decision, the administration of the was not given any answer by the NCAA as to why they chose the punishment that they did.

Meanwhile, other schools who played a larger role in the FBI investigated scheme were not punished or otherwise punished punitively despite the FBI and NCAA admitting greater sin. This is just one of many instances over the years in which the NCAA has proven that it believes itself to be judge, jury, and executioner. It has never at any time given consistent punishments nor has it ever shown transparency in its deliberation process.

No other institution in the United States would be allowed to arbitrarily make its own rules and change them at a whim without legislation or voting. It should also be noted that the NCAA gets away with this because they do not have a clear constitution to guide them in the subjects of justice and recourse. Again, no other organization in our country could do that, because the constitution does not allow it. Yet, we allow the NCAA to be as corrupt as they wish and as unconstitutional as they desire with no recourse.

It is time that the autonomy five schools break free of the NCAA and it's corruption. It's time they form their own coalition in which the universities involved govern themselves. Our country was founded on revolution and it is time that these public universities revolt from the NCAA
