·        On March 9, 2021 at 6:00 pm, the Town of Davidson will hold a hearing and vote on a Charlotte City Water Project.

·        If the Project is approved, the Town will force residents in the Davidson Pointe neighborhood off Bridges Farm Road, who have used private community well water for years, to connect to Charlotte City Water.

·        Since at least February 2020, the Town of Davidson has repeatedly indicated that the reason for the Project is to promote better fire safety for the Davidson Pointe neighborhood.  Davidson’s Mayor Rusty Knox was even quoted in a Lake Norman Publication newspaper article, dated March 4, 2020, as follows: “And Mayor Rusty Knox emphasized, multiple times, the extension has ‘zero to do with development’ but is designed to provide permanent water service – and subsequently more reliable fire protection services – in Davidson Pointe.”

·        However, the Town of Davidson finally acknowledged in a Town meeting on February 23, 2021 that a primary motivation and basis for the Charlotte City Water Project at Davidson Pointe is, in fact, development.

·        Specifically, the Charlotte City Water Project will allow development of (i) 20+ homes on a well property at Davidson Pointe and more notably, (ii) a corporate campus (the same type of corporate campus that was proposed on Beaty Street and was the genesis for the Save Davidson movement) and (iii) high density commercial mixed-use development on parcels of land at Bridges Farm Road.

·        Further, public water through the Charlotte City Water Project will allow the Town of Mooresville to connect additional parcels of land to Charlotte City Water, facilitating large-scale development up and down Highway 115 and promoting the interests of multiple developer projects in and around Lake Davidson.

·        Such development will have an impact on residents who live in the surrounding areas, including traffic and congestion on Highway 115, overcrowding of local schools, erosion of the ecosystem and wildlife of Lake Davidson and quality of life issues.

·        Many residents at Davidson Pointe also believe the water quality of Charlotte City Water, based on data from 2019 reports, is not as safe as their current well water.

·        Further, many residents and citizens in this area have not been heard on these issues.  Residents and citizens have not been able to voice their concerns and objections at a hearing to those who will vote on this Project.  Residents and citizens only will be able to submit written objections by March 8, 2021 and will not be permitted to speak at a hearing.

·        Please let your voice be heard and consider sending objections to the Town of Davidson by 5:00 pm on Monday, March 8, 2021.  Objections should be sent via email to the following:

bshores@townofdavidson.org, board@townofdavidson.org, rknox@townofdavidson.org, jcampbell@townofdavidson.org, mfort@townofdavidson.org, jfuller@townofdavidson.org, amichael@townofdavidson.org and dsitton@townofdavidson.org.

·        For public access to view the meeting, which will not be in-person but available on Zoom, please register in advance by 5:00 pm on Thursday, March 9, 2021 at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_UY28FCd6Syuo2iHkP5sQLQ
