Petition to remove SDHHNS interpreter booking coordinator and hire new one

We, the undersigned, are concerned consumers and workers. We urge the Board of SDHHNS to initiate a hiring process for a new interpreter booking coordinator(s) that is rooted in community-informed practices.

It is our experience that the current interpreter booking coordinator at the Society of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Nova Scotians, has consistently not cooperated with deaf and hearing consumers, and seemingly does not adhere to a healthy professional relationship between interpreters and deaf persons.

The current interpreter booking coordinator in the course of her duties for the past 20+ years, has time and time again demonstrated a disregard for best practices in the profession of interpreting, booking practices and community cultural norms.

This has caused ongoing harm and confusion for deaf & hearing consumers, and the broader community.

The time for improvement is now.
