Whereas the late Dr. George Blake (1922-2018), a Black Jamaican-Canadian was the co-founder and first Director of the original clinic in the early 1970s, now called the Pinewood Centre of Lakeridge Health, we hereby petition the Board of Lakeridge Health and the City of Oshawa that the Centre be renamed the Dr. B. George Blake Centre of Lakeridge Health to commemorate his contribution to the institution and the City of Oshawa. In light of Lakeridge Health Board of Trustees commitment to Inclusion, Diversity and Engagement (Motion 2.1.1, Feb.15, 2018), this recognition also petitioned to celebrate the United Nations International Decade of People of African Descent (2015-2024) in the City of Oshawa.
