Brian Chen started this petition to Board of Education

Each and every year we have students go through the hassle of school. What purpose does it serve, they say school is used to help you with time management but that is just wrong, we waste our lives in school. The board of education must realize just because they learn certain things in schools doesn’t mean they should be forced upon us. Times change and certain things they learned in school shouldn’t be forced upon us again and again time after time.

Many of the classes we have are just  unnecessary. Let’s take English class for example, we learn the same things year after year. Each and every year I get to learn about different figures of speech each year I learn about similes,  onomatopoeia, metaphors, alliteration, among others. At a certain point you don’t need to be learning anymore there’s a peak where we can stop. What’s left to teach to students? The answer is the school system doesn’t even know, why else does it force information repeatedly upon us. I don’t plan on becoming a writer and I doubt you want to either and if you do just take up an education for it. What I’m trying to say is who keeps the board of education in check, they make sure students learnt eh same useless facts year after year and it has to end.

With a math class, you use it daily when it comes to doing your taxes or making sure you have enough supplies. I mean there’s so many jobs you can take up that use math. It’s so universal, whether your a engineer or construction worker it doesn’t matter. There’s a purpose to math I truly believes so. Hate it or love it you will have to use math in your day to day life.

Classes like our sciences can be incredibly useful but not everyone needs it. My biology class and chemistry class sure they’re great subjects but it’s not my future study. If your into it go to college and look into it more, it’s your passion and your future. They’re great subjects but only met for a certain crowd, it just matters what your into. If your a chemist great you can make my medicine and save the future maybe you can cure cancer but not everyone is into it or good at it.

History is a good class, the mission statement hopes to prepare us for the future and not repeat our past mistakes and that’s great. History is interesting to certain people but not do others it’s just moderation is key. I can think back to 4 grade where we learned about the revolutionary war and again in 8th grade. My question is just why do we have to repeat everything to much of anything isn’t good for you. I believe if you enjoy a class you should continue in it, so you should be able to dip your toes into a class and be able to stick with it or quit, rather than forcing it upon a students year after year.

School just needs to be fixed, the education system is way too flawed and simply needs someone to fix it. I just hope that for everyone’s future that the education system is fixed for the better. There’s not much of a point in teaching a concept again and again especially if no ones willing to learn. Ask almost any adult what they remember in school and they will either say nothing or something useless like the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. The school system has to be fixed as the times change the school system should also have to.
