Blythe C. Robinson, Upton Town Manager: Please Reconsider the Decision to Move Town Hall Employees to Memorial School

Allowing town hall to relocate employees and its daily business to Memorial Elementary School would compromise the safety of our children by allowing unnecessary traffic in the building and on surrounding school property. Conducting municipal business on school property will heighten the likelihood of visitors with school vicinity restrictions, due to probation measures or sex offender status. The rear parking lot allows easy access to the playgrounds and recreation field, that our children utilize every day, with a quick exit out the Fiske Ave. connection. In addition, the extra traffic (that will often be unfamiliar with the schools entry/exit protocol) will impact traffic flow and parking lot space, an existing and daily issue at Memorial, and will also increase the occurrence of visitors not following normal school speed limits and other precautionary measures, inherent in a school environment. In addition to addressing the safety concerns during a normal school day, we must also consider safety for other school programs, to include before and after school programs, enrichment programs and summer programs, which all run with limited staff on the property. The safety of our children is of utmost concern, and we do not believe that adequate measures can be implemented to properly secure the building and external play areas.
