We deserve the right to feel safe in our school. Safety is unattainable, though, when rapists walk our halls, sit beside us in class, completely free of guilt. Blue Valley Northwest has allowed this to happen through a policy of inaction and oppression. The school administrators have shown time and time again that they do not care what happens to us students, they only care about preserving their public image. There have been countless instances where brave survivors report their assault to the school, searching for aid, only to be met with silence. The school does not remain completely inactive, though. To keep their image clean, the school offers to move most survivors to a different school. Why is the victim the one that gets punished? This is why we request the following changes:

1. A letter of recognition and condemnation of sexual assault as an issue in our school

2. A change to the school's policy of silencing the survivors and instead, working to protect them by thoroughly investigating the reports, punishing the assaulter if found guilty in accordance with the student handbook, and instituting temporary or permanent methods to ensure the safety of the survivor (to be determined on an individual case basis after being discussed with the survivor)

3. A yearly program to educate students on sexual assault, what counts as sexual assault, how to recognize it happening, and how to report it if it happens to you or someone else. As we are not informed on whether the school is allowed to make programs of its own, we, at the very least, request the school bring our proposed program to the school district.
