I'm signing because women need to have the choice to birth where they feel best, safe, and comfortable. If a woman has the option to get an abortion then mothers should be able to have the same freedom and choice to birth at home.

Home births, certified midwives, birthing centers, and doulas should be covered by insurance PERIOD, not just in the context of the covid 19 pandemic

Not only is home birth a safe and acceptable option for healthy women who are expecting, it’s also the safest option during COVID-19 due to the exposure risk of hospitalization for the expecting mother, the newborn. It’s also markedly more affordable for insurance companies to cover home birth, as a posed to the average cost of a hospital birth. There is no excuse for insurance companies to refuse paying for a home birth that is planned with a professional maternity care provider.

I had all four of my babies at home and had to fight for any coverage at all. The cost was a fraction of what it would have been in a hospital and I had good medical insurance, yet I had to spend months writing letters and making calls to get any reimbursement. Homebirth is a safe and satisfying option which should not be discriminated against.

I am pregnant and fearing the worse when I give birth in November. I do not know what to expect at the hospitals and do not trust that myself or my baby will receive the proper care in a hospital setting. I also fear that my husband will not be allowed in the room during birth. I know the hospitals are going to rush my labor and birth and kick me out. The safest and most comfortable place to have my baby will be in my own home!

I fully agree that this needs to be a covered option under healthcare! It's less costly anyways!! Allow women to have their own birthing choice!
