Abolish Assault Weapons in Bloomington, Indiana

Bloomington, Indiana - proud home of Indiana University - is a peaceful, loving and artful town. It is up to us to fight to keep it that way.

Considering the recent tragic terrorist event in Orlando, Florida and the attempted attack in California, we believe that Bloomington must lead the fight to ban lethal assault weapons in the State of Indiana. According to Indiana law, fully automatic weapons are banned, but all other attack weapons are perfectly legal. 

Bloomington is a place of opportunity, for young people especially. With about half of the town's population consisting of diverse college students, we see no need for assault weapons to be allowed within our government, around our many small businesses, and within our peaceful neighborhoods. 

Until now, I have not been one to push for reform on gun laws - they are complicated and confusing. But, things have changed. Many of my friends identify as LGBTQA and we are terrified. There is a large population of minorities in Bloomington, while living in one of the most racist and segregated states in America.

Please help me to communicate to our City Counsel that these weapons are far too dangerous to allow in our small town.


Our Indiana constitution declares our Rights to be as follows:
Article 1, Section 1:
The People have, at all times, an indefeasible right to alter and reform their government.
And Article 1,Section 31. No law shall restrain any of the inhabitants of the State from instructing their representatives.
