With the arrival of pandemic virus Covid-19 to the United States, American citizens are being urged to stay home as much as possible, to travel only for necessity, and to not congregate. Specifically, the Governor of our state, Phil Murphy, has declared we are in both a public health emergency and a State of Emergency. While this doesn’t mean we need to panic, it does indicate that we should be smart and conscientious citizens. Let’s be prudent and make intelligent, healthy choices for the greater good.

The CDC and Governor Murphy have specifically urged, based on epidemiological and medical information, that we stay at least 6 feet away from each other in public. This cannot happen on our main street when it’s crowded and it’s absolutely impossible in a movie theater.

It shows arrogance and shortsightedness for the owners of these businesses to flout this advice and to not forgo reaping financial benefits in favor of the public good. It is a myopic choice to not have already declared these events canceled until further notice.

We must take the actions we can now. There is no time for delay. Acting in everyone’s best interest is the only way to make sure we don’t end up over extending our healthcare system. Do this out of respect for the doctors and nurses tending to this emergency. No one needs to be getting unnecessarily ill. We do not want our hospitals going over capacity. We don’t need to unnecessarily expose our families. Let’s do this out of respect.

Please do the responsible thing by our town and abstain from visiting it and please sign this petition to urge these business owners to act in the best interest of public health and the safety of the local citizens who support them. Thank you. Wash your hands. Inform yourself through verified, reliable sources. Stay home, stay healthy.
