Laura Midgley started this petition to Blaine County Commissioners

Preserve the Wood River Valley's beauty, health, and safety by letting the Blaine County Commissioners know we support the burial of Idaho Power Company's second high voltage transmission line. IPCo has permission to build a new line that will literally tower over the recreation bike/cross country ski path that follows Buttercup Road and Highway75, our scenic corridor. By signing this petition we will let the Commissioners know the community supports burial of the ENTIRE high-voltage transmission line and that protecting Hailey and Mid-Valley is just as crucial as burial in Ketchum.

IPCo's plan includes passing on the $12.5m cost of burial for Ketchum to all Idaho's ratepayers, while burial for Mid-Valley and Hailey will require about $30m in additional funding, such as via a 30-year bond. Despite citizen efforts to stop or modify the line, IPCo now has permission build, but our Commissioners have the option to raise funds for burial if they believe the public will support it.

This project is the Valley's most significant infrastructure project for many decades to come and warrants a longterm outlook. Let's not waste our chance to preserve our Valley's beauty (scarred by towering poles and high voltage lines), health (high voltage lines near homes and over the popular recreational path), and safety (the recent California fires are believed to be started by above-ground transmission line malfunction). Our tourism-based economy and residents' enjoyment of the Valley depends on good stewardship from us all.
