Why this petition matters

The changes made to the Federation Forest and the addition of the new sporting facility on Simpson Hill Rd, have caused a flood crisis amongst the residents surrounding Ropes Creek in Mt Druitt.

Residents have been trapped within their homes as water levels have blocked the streets and risen to front doorsteps.

This is not a flood zone. These floods are a direct result of poor planning of the new sporting facility. The changes to the federation forest has added pressure onto Simpson Hill Rd and the western end of Ropes Creek Rd as the natural flow of water has been obstructed by the newly constructed carpark and ancillary buildings to the sporting fields.

The council needs to act. Open creeks in this area are full of rubbish, old trees and mud. An investigation must be launched into the new sporting facility. Storm water infrastructure needs to be upgraded to cope with these events.
