Many people have expressed their disappointment in Blackhawk High School because of the recent announcement about the graduation plans. In two weeks, seniors are going to wait separately in their cars in the parking lot of the school, be called in individually, and walk onto a stage with an empty auditorium. This will all be filmed and made into a video along with the Senior Awards Assembly and posted on YouTube. The commencement will be spread over the days of May 11-14, based off of last names.

This is simply unacceptable. The school year doesn't end until May 29. It doesn't make sense for the students to "graduate" on May 11-14. The students and their families deserve more than this. The seniors were supposed to graduate on June 12. These plans were made very prematurely. Many things can change in a month and a half, especially when Pennsylvania is scheduled to begin the plan of phased reopening and easing of restrictions this month. Many other schools have found creative ways of giving the students a more normal ceremony. For instance, holding it outside in the new Athletic Complex would give the seniors a more traditional experience. Blackhawk at the very least should postpone the commencement before making a hasty decision like this. We know that there must have been a lot of careful consideration while making these plans, but the Blackhawk students and families encourage the administration to reconsider.
