Delphi Farquhar started this petition to Blaby District Council (Blaby District Council)

Since Monday 2nd July 2018, the household waste collection services for the Blaby District changed to fortnightly, alternating recycling and general waste. This was due to lack of funding. Additional bins are available on request for a fee, however those people in rental properties may either be unauthorised to arrange this change on behalf of their landlord or be reluctant to pay out of their own pocket for a larger bin when they do not own the property and this cost will not be reimbursed by the landlord.

The alternating weekly collection days have had the effect of both recycling and general waste bins being full to overflowing by the time it is collection day. Once the recycling bin is full, there is no option other than to put the recyclable materials into the general waste bin or take the recycling to a public recycling bin, which can be difficult for those people who do not drive. This will greatly reduce the amount of recyclable materials that are actually being recycled.

In addition to the lack of capacity for recycling, overflowing bins are unhygienic, unsightly and attract bugs and vermin that can spread disease.

If you live in the Blaby District of Leicester, please sign this petition to call on our local council to bring about this change and increase our opportunities to recycle ♻️
