Less Homework for Bishop Lynch High School
Less Homework for Bishop Lynch High School
The amount of time that students at Bishop Lynch High School spend on homework, is unhealthy and problematic. Teenagers are expected to manage mental health, sports, clubs, hobbies, and excessive amount of school work all in less than 24 hours a day.
First, a study by Stanford shows that students feel obligated to choose between school and doing things they enjoyed. Students should never have to choose between homework and their overall wellbeing. Homework should be assigned to make the most of class time. For example, "here is a worksheet, if you don't finish it in class it's homework". This creates motivation for the student to finish it in class in order to minimize out of school homework. Often, teachers will say "Oh I know you have a lot of homework but I'm just going to assign you this....etc." With most of our teachers saying that, we end up with 4+ hours of homework every night!!
Thank you so much for reading and I hope that you decide to help make school healthier!!
