Have you heard of Kane Walker? In late January 2019, Kane Walker, a homeless man, was found near the Bullring in Birmingham City Centre in cardiac arrest. Extreme temperatures make rough sleeping inconceivably dangerous and we must, as a community, prevent another helpless mans life from being ruthlessly taken due to such conditions. People like Kane have no voice and we must speak out.

We are a group of young people from Birmingham who strongly feel that homelessness in our city is a major problem and that’s why we are calling out to our MPs and to you, the community here to help make this change. We want schools to educate their pupils on homelessness and how they can help them. Over half of the UKs homeless population are 18-24 years old and having this information in schools could truly make a difference.

As a group, we are giving out packs containing necessities to some of those affected in the city centre and donating any extra money we raise to Birmingham City Mission but this is not sustainable and doesn’t not help those in your city. We need your help to bring this issue to the government and our MPs, they actually have the power to change and save lives. People are not homeless for fun, this is a crisis. Birmingham has a bad enough reputation, let’s not make homelessness part of this.
