Save the Onyx Nightclub from having their business & liquor licenses revoked by the Birmingham City Council. Onyx Lounge has been a staple venue in the Smithfield community for over a decade. Until recently, they've never been threatened with having their licenses revoked. With the recent closings of Skyy Nightclub, Foxx Trap, Club Zen and other unnamed venues many African-Americans in the city of Birmingham aren't able to enjoy a great "nightlife."
Over the past 10 years the Onyx Lounge of Birmingham has dedicated much of their money, time and resources to the surrounding communities. Some of the great things they've done includes but not limited to:
-Hosting an annual Halloween Party for the neighborhood kids
-Hosting an annual back-to-school event for kids (backpacks, supplies and haircuts.)
-Donating money, regularly, to local groups that sponsor positive activities for children, such as little league football, baseball and cheerleading teams, civic groups, etc. and
-So much more
In short, whenever residents from this community have demonstrated a need that the Onyx Lounge could help to meet, Mr. Keith Davis (owner) didn't hesitate to respond.
The Onyx has routinely provided security which includes Birmingham Police during club hours, not just for the safety of club patrons but also for the added benefit of surrounding residents. Onyx understands that it shares the community and its safety with the neighbors and other nearby businesses.
