sultan Zamir started this petition to Birmingham City Council Licensing (Birmingham City Council)

We, the below signed would kindly ask for the application for the sale of alcohol for consumption off 290 Alum Rock Road B8 3DD to be rejected as:

The Alum Rock area is already suffering from high rates of crime & anti social behaviour. Giving permission for another off-licence in a highly saturated residential area would only exacerbate issues.

The shop is in close proximity to several educational establishments (Shaw Hill Primary School, Nansen Primary School, Rockwood Academy, Eden Boys School & Booster Learning Centre) and religious establishments (Emmanuel Church,  St. MARY and St. JOHN parish Hall, International Pentecostal City Church, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Minhaj ul Quran Mosque, UKIM Jamia Mosque & Jamia Madina Kashif Ul Uloom Mosque.) (All within 0.3 miles)

The shop is also in close proximity to the St. Peters Housing Association which provides accommodation to vulnerable residents. Not to mention, the fact the business is located is next to  a residential family home.

There is already an off licence located in close proximity ( 7 Star Food & Wine 105-107 Glenpark Rd, Saltley, Birmingham B8 3QL) (0.5 miles) and another Beghal food store -wines and spirits (456 Alum Rock Rd, Birmingham B8 3HU) (0.3 miles).

So there is no need for another off-licence in a largely Muslim community that do not consume alcohol and a community in which there is an already high crime rate but gets very little Police presence since the Police are so understaffed.

There has been no consultation with local residents and businesses.

A spokesperson for the applicant Ms June Clarke stated (Birmingham Mail ):

"my client is not responsible for the negative actions of other people unless he or his customers are directly involved within the vicinity of the shops."

Well, they need to be aware of involvements within the vicinity of the shop i.e we already have highly alcohol dependent homeless beggars harassing us on a daily basis with their anti social behaviours.

In summary, allowing this off-licence would only aggravate issues of public nuisance, crime & disorder, bring little to no benefit to our community. We as a community always seek to secure public safety, & ensure that our children are protected from harm.

Thus, We, the local community would like to oppose the application for an off-licence on the aforementioned premises.

Many Thanks.
