Jamaica Expat Association want access from Birmingham City Council to use Handsworth Park

Since 2015 the Jamaican Expat Association (JEA) has been organising and managing the Jamaica Independence Day Celebration event for Jamaican and the wider community of Birmingham. This event allows for the celebration of Jamaican culture and heritage with food, drinks, art and craft products and entertainment on display for the residents of Birmingham and surrounding to enjoy and indulge in.
The SAG committee, consisting of the West Midlands police, fire service, trading standards and events and park service, are currently fighting to stop our (Minority ethnic group) community wide celebration and the celebration of the Jamaican community’s culture and heritage. It is of great concern that we do not have the support from the local authorities who are the basis of the Birmingham community for such an important and much loved celebration. We require signatures to appeal their unnecessary objections to the celebration showing the love and support the event has from the community.
The celebration provides significant benefit to the community and the local economy. It is an opportunity for the diverse community of Birmingham to learn about the Jamaican culture and come together to celebrate local culture and talents in unity.
