Lu-Hao Veritas started this petition to BIMM, board of directors

Dear fellow BIMM student,

The BIMM locations and Pirate Studios will remain closed for the foreseeable future. This means that we will continue not getting anything of what we are contributing tuition for.

Some of us have signed the petition back in September/October to get a partial restitution of our paid tuition. The government responded by stating that this is the private decision of the school institutions.

This means that it is BIMM's own decision to keep taking our money for a fraction of the resources they usually provide. Of course BIMM isn't responsible for the covid restrictions, however they knew they wouldn't be offering their usual services to us. About 2500 students study at BIMM London and that means that just this location of BIMM has received over £23.000.000 in tuition this year, all from students who expected a worthwhile experience.

One-on-one tutoring, the joy of making music together in the studio, real-life teaching, are all no longer options. But some among us may not have the financial and/or physical resources to successfully make music at home. International students moved here to be locked away, alone, in incredibly expensive rooms without resources. I've heard many stories of other people who have been unable to produce professionally sounding songs in their current circumstances. In the beginning of the year we were given a personal tutor, nobody has heard from them ever since. And even when BIMM was operational the amount of recording options we had were minimal as most rooms are band rehearsal rooms. This all adds up to an unpleasant university experience.

We would like to state that this is not aimed at our teachers, many of which would like to see this resolved as well. As our teachers, their job should be preparing us to launch successful careers in the music industry after these 3 years. That will not happen if we will be financially depleted for a cheap online course instead of the facilities we paid a hefty amount of money for.

What are we suggesting? We are suggesting a restitution consisting of 50% our paid tuition for the school year 2020/2021. This online course we've been getting so far has unfortunately not been worth more than that.

We would also like to receive an official statement from BIMM in which they acknowledge that this experience hasn't been financially worthwhile for students. Most students feel as if BIMM is trying to pretend as if this is a regular year and although positivity is always encouraged, we cannot and should not ignore the obvious reduction in opportunities and resources.

Thanks in advance,

Lu ter Beek
