Many young Australians with the debilitating illness Cystic Fibrosis, a rare genetic disease that damages the lungs and digestive system, face a unknown future unless a potentially life saving medicine can be subsidised. The medicine  'Orkambi' is the only drug available in Australia, and treats the underlying causes of the disease and offers hope to sufferers who presently have a life expectancy of 37 years. Patient carers are currently forced to pay up to $250,000 a year for the drug. A 2 year trial of the drug on 2 young Perth sisters has created a lot of hope, helping to cut down on the constant hospital visits. The drug will go before the Pharmaceutical benefits advisory committee for the 4th time in August, and if it is not listed the company may pull out of Australia all together and it may also be the end of clinical trials
