The No Left Turn in Education (NLTE) wants all Shelby Co. Schools open without masks!
The Shelby County Schools has announced a universal mask-wearing policy for our children, beginning Monday, August 9, 2021. Further, we are concerned that the other school districts in Shelby County may follow their lead. We know that this mask mandate will cause further stress, disruption and ultimately not benefit our children. This is unacceptable!
OUR CHILDREN HAVE ALREADY SUFFERED ENOUGH.
There is a body of evidence that our children do not require masks. We also note that beyond academic harm, there is emotional harm, with frightening data points. Scientifically, every speech pathologist knows that children learn how to speak by watching words expressed in conversation, and the mask harms their speech development. Masks also interfere with our body’s natural immune system connecting with natural air. This alone will cause lifetime harm for many of our children.
Tennessee Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton stated that if schools move to mask mandates he will call for a special session of the Tennessee General Assembly. By enacting a Mask Mandate, Shelby County Schools are placing undue burdens on our children.
We demand that parents are given a voice in this matter. Masks should not be mandated, instead the choice of parents. This petition will be shared with both the Speaker of the House, and all members of the Shelby County Schools Board members.
