How you can help remove Nashville's KKK statue

First of all, I want to say thank you for signing the petition to remove/conceal the statue on I-65 of Nathan Bedford Forrest. Your signature and your voice made an impact.

On July 30th, I had a meeting with Representative Jason Powell and constituents to see how we could move forward with getting the statue covered from view with grown trees.

Here’s the good news: Resources and funding are not an issue.

The hold up? TDOT (Tennessee Department of Transportation) needs permission from TN Governor Bill Lee to plant the trees.

  • Here is what you can do:
  1. Share this information on social media to spread awareness and tag Governor Lee and your local legislators.

Your phone calls and emails will put the necessary pressure on our leaders to finally do what is right and remove this hate symbol from view.

Even though this statue is a sensitive subject, please refrain from sending hateful, threatening, and profane messages to our local leaders.

If you are unsure of what to say or email, here is a script

Hello, My name is [name of citizen]. As a concerned citizen of [city] and Tennessee resident, I am calling to ask the TDOT/the Governor/my representative to demand the planting of vegetation by TDOT in front of the Nathan Bedford Forrest Statue on the East side of I-65 N.

By spreading awareness and reaching out to our local government, I believe we can get this horrendous statue covered up for good!

Thank you so much for your time dedicated to this cause. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me here and I will get back to you!
