On March 3rd, 2020, the first coronavirus/Covid-19 case was confirmed in Williamson county, Tennessee. As we have learned time and again, there tend to be clusters which blossom around each confirmed case, and the infected have been out in the community, spreading this virus without knowing it.

The incubation period for this is simply too long to know the extent of the infection at this time.

Although the virus may not be particularly lethal to many of the students, who are young and healthy, many students are medically fragile, and this virus may be deadly to them.  Also, many students go home to vulnerable adults, such as disabled parents, grandparents and infant siblings.

We do not write this petition to get out of our school or work. We expect our teacher to provide us with assignments at home, and we resolve to work hard to complete those assignments while school is closed.

Another possible solution would be to "delay" the school year a month or so, and complete the year in the summer, when viruses tend to back down.

We also do not want to put ourselves in the position of choosing between our children's education and our health.

We write this petition to urge you to make the responsible decisions to keep the students and their families safe. The decision to close all schools would also alleviate the potential rush for medical care during the first wave or outbreak of the coronavirus. Thus, the chance of overwhelming our medical resources would be lessened, and those who do need medical help will be more able to receive it.
