Bay District should notify parents when their children have been exposed to head lice!

We need a plan in place that all the Bay District Schools will follow when it comes to head lice. Recently, the policy was changed to a "No Live Bug Policy" which keeps kids in school with nits if no bugs are found. Even though I don't agree with this policy, I do understand why they changed it... To ultimately keep kids from missing school.
Unfortunately this does no good if parents aren't informed that their children have been exposed. The reason is this...
- A child is sent home and allowing that parent to handle the situation, but are sent right back into the same environment where they more than likely got it to begin with.
- If all parents are aware, that gives us the opportunity to look at our children to make sure they are clear as well.
- Everyone needs to be on the same page at the same time, otherwise it just gets passed back and forth.
- Parents are spending time and money treating their children just to end up getting it again because not all children have been checked.
The school system thinks it will start an uproar if notices are sent and/or emailed to the parents. I can promise you this is not true. All parents want to know if their child has been exposed.
We need to remember when it comes down to it:
COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO STOPPING THE CYCLE OF HEAD LICE!!!!
