Support Business Incubation for Entrepreneurs in Clarksville, Tennessee

This petition had 227 supporters

As the Clarksville community continues to grow, the demand for jobs will grow to meet the increasing number of veterans and their families making Clarksville their home. Entrepreneurs have the ability to stimulate our economy through job creation that in turn increases the local tax base and provides income for residents to support other local small businesses.

Small businesses make up the majority of all the companies in Tennessee, and are the backbone of our state’s economy. Some of the largest, most well-known companies in Tennessee today began with small business owners who dared to dream big and worked hard. The challenges and obstacles that small business owners and entrepreneurs face are often intimidating. Adequate support and resources are crucial to navigating the early days of a new venture.

The Clarksville Entrepreneur Center connects disadvantaged veteran and minority entrepreneurs with mentors, affordable office space, and other educational resources to increase the successful development of new businesses, job creation and employment.

Business owners and entrepreneurs in Clarksville, Montgomery County and surrounding areas are finding strong footing in their ventures, thanks to the guidance and support of the Clarksville Entrepreneur Center. We currently average serving 50 entrepreneurs with business incubation services monthly and together in 2018 alone have created over 130 jobs. We are seeking $400,000 from the State of Tennessee this budget cycle in order to fulfill the terms of our lease purchase agreement to acquire the 24,000 sqft facility located at 1860 Wilma Rudolph Blvd that we have operating in for 4 years. Our option to purchase expires on April 30, 2019 or if another buyer is able to purchase the facility before us. We have secured conditional pre-approval contingent on our ability to obtain $360,000 down payment and $40,000 in closing cost to complete the purchase for $1.8 million.

The Clarksville Entrepreneur Center has a proven track record of success in working with small business owners in helping them to reach their fullest potential to become productive and economic contributors to their communities. We are respectfully requesting support of Amendment #38 of SB2552/HB2644 for a one time funding allocation in the amount of $400,000 to enable us to Sustain our efforts to provide the Services, Space, and Support critical to the development of Entrepreneurs.
