Each and everyday ABA therapists receive calls from frantic families looking for Autism Therapy for their child. It is heartbreaking when the therapists have to tell the parents that their insurance will not cover ABA Therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Many Insurance companies claim that it's a money issue since it's estimated that Autism Treatment costs about $40,000 a year. However statistics show that if the child receives early intervention therapy, such as ABA, many of them will learn to live productive, self- sufficient lifestyles. However if they are left untreated many of these children will be forced into state care for the rest of their lives.

Tennessee is currently only 1 of 4 states that do not require insurance for children that have Autism Spectrum Disorder. This means that many children in our state are unable to use this necessary service due to the high cost. It also means families who do not have the resources to pay for this therapy may need to relocate to a different state that does require insurance to pay for therapies regarding the children with ASD.

What is ABA Therapy?

ABA therapy has many benefits for children and families who can access this life changing service. In many cases children who were previously unable to communicate in a appropriate way learn to communicate their wants and needs with their families by speaking or using a functional communication system. Others may learn to participate in their homes, schools, and communication in a meaningful way. The benefits of participation in ABA services are extensive and well supported by many years of research.
