On June 1, 2017, Bill 148, Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, was introduced at Queen’s Park. It’s a once in a generation opportunity to make progress for workers.
If passed, the new law would:
✔ Increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour by January 2019
✔ Give all workers 3 paid weeks of vacation after 5 years with
the same employer
✔ Mandate equal pay for equal work between full-time and
✔ Provide all workers a minimum of 10 personal emergency
leave days, 2 of which must be paid
✔ Up to 15 weeks of unpaid leave if the employee or a child of
the employee experiences domestic or sexual violence or the
threat of domestic or sexual violence
