The Big Rock fishing boundaries are currently at he 40275 north and 39200 south Loran C lines.  This results an effective limit of about 80 nautical miles in the 100-500 fathom typical fishing areas.  This is about 20 to 45 nautical miles less than most other major mid-Atlantic big game fishing tournaments like the White Marlin Open, Mid-Atlantic 500, Big Fish Classic, etc.  Increasing the limits to the 40500 north and 39000 south Loran C lines or establishing a 100 or 125 nm range limit from a Beaufort Inlet buoy would make the Big Rock more consistent with these other major tournaments and offer the following benefits to anglers and NC coastal communities:

add some excellent fishing grounds options to the tournament on both ends of the range limits when our fishing in recent years has sometimes been slow with few bites

decrease the crowding of closer popular fishing spots which will improve fishing throughout the tournament areas

add more boats and entry/prize money to the tournament by adding more slips from which entrants can fish competitively in the Wrightsville Beach/Wilmington, Hatteras, and other NC coastal communities

Overall, expanding the Big Rock north and south boundary limits would help the Big Rock Tournament continue its improvement and notoriety in the sportfishing world, improve fishing opportunities and options for its angler entrants, increase funds paid out to charities and prize winners, all while helping local NC businesses and coastal communities increase their revenues from slip, fuel, bait, ice, food, beverage, tackle, lodging, and other tournament-related goods and services.
