In 2013, she was recommended for Padma Bhushan. We all know that before BJP came to power in 2014, dynastic parties either sold national awards or used it for vote bank Politics. She refused the award, rightly quoting that it was too little and had come too late and that South Indian artists were not given their due recognition.

Ladies and gentlemen, Sistla Janaki famous as S Janaki and respectfully called as "Janaki Amma" and “Nightingale of South India” is one of the best-known playback singers in India. She is referred to as “Isaikkuyil” in Tamil Nadu and “Gaana Kogile” in Karnataka and “Gaana Kokilam” in Kerala.

This Petition is to request Honourable PM of India Mr Narendra Modi Ji to bestow Bharat Ratna for S Janaki for her spotless and mercurial melody career.

Starting in 1947 at the age of 9 with her first stage performance, and a career spanning over six decades from 1957, She has recorded over 48,000 songs in films, albums, TV and Radio which includes solos, duets, chorus and title tracks in 17 languages including Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi and also in foreign languages such as Japanese, German and Sinhala.

She has performed live on stages in more than 5000 concerts across the globe. She has won 4 National Film Awards and 33 different State Film Awards. She is the recipient of an honorary doctorate from theUniversity of Mysore, the Kalaimamani award from Government of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka Rajyotsava award from Government of Karnataka In 2013.

She has sung in almost all the genres of songs like classical, semi-classical, melody, pathos, rock, jazz, not to mention her magnificent folk numbers with the touch of soil, mostly in ilaiyaraja's music. 

Late music maestro Bappi Da was so impressed by a Hindi song sung by S Janaki for a Tamil movie that he decided to have songs sung by her in his upcoming Hindi movies and introduced her to Bollywood. She sang many duets with singer Kishore Da post this. He Hindi numbers include “Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re" (Saaheb - 1985) and “Dil mein ho tum" (Satyamev Jayate -1987) among many others.

In October 2016, she announced her retirement from singing for films and stage appearances. However, under pressure from the film fraternity, she made a comeback in 2018.
