Why this petition matters

Turkey has environmental troubles. The amount of trash bins is not enough to cover the whole public area. Istanbul is surrounded by water on all sides, including the Marmara Sea, and it is the place where dozens of fish species live. That’s why we should be aware that the garbage not thrown in the trash bins, will get directly to the sea and will be harmful for the maritime ecosystem.
Turkey is the country that throws the most plastic in the Mediterranean Sea (144 tons of plastic per day), according to 2019 report of World Wildlife Fund (WWF). See the link: https://wwf.panda.org/wwf_news/?328836/out-of-the-plastic-trap
Another reason the trash bins will be useful, is that Istanbul is a touristic city and the streets full of garbage will get a decrease of the number of tourists.
One of the solutions to decrease the negative impact created by the trash that ends into the sea, is to have more trash bins around the city.
