Why this petition matters

Started by Aiyi Zhang

We believe that Gender Inequality is an important issue, it does not affect only individual lives but the whole society. If we continue to have gender inequality we will continue in a cycle where one group are made to feel less than the other. This can lead to a group separating themselves from others during social activities, afraid of being judged and treated differently. Feeling insecure and anxious where ever they, such as, at school, at work, or even walking down the road.
It is not an issue only on a local scale but also nationally and globally. During the pandemic, gender inequality has gradually increased whilst women's rights decreased. An example of this is the loss of employment for women who hold the majority of insecure, informal, and lower-paying jobs. Globally, women make up 70 percent of healthcare workers. Women also do most of the support jobs at health facilities, including the cleaning, laundry, and foodservice. Therefore, they are more likely to be exposed to the virus. However, this still doesn't change the way women are treated, they are still paid less than men, even though their lives are on the line.
Based on calculations, women are 1.8 times more vulnerable to lose their jobs than men, at about 5.7% versus 3.1% respectively. Women are often treated differently and unfairly than men due to their gender. In 2020, men in the UK earned an average of £14.93 whilst women earned around £13.55. We have created this petition as we are aiming for women to be treated more equally than men. By signing this petition we can work towards a better upright society and help bring justice to women's unequal treatment.
We would like the government to provide women with equality, especially in employment and have more support for women.
