Paul Faci started this petition to Bexley Civic Council and

Bexleyheath has one of the worst childhood obesity rates in London. As of 2016, 35% of students in Bexleyheath in Year 6 are overweight/obese. (Public Health England) Obesity in young people is associated with a variety of health complications later on in life such as: Type 2 Diabetes, Heart and Liver Disease, Cancer and/or Stroke at a cost of £5.1 billion each year to NHS.

To tackle this, we are lobbying Bexley Civic Offices to restrict the frequency of advertising of fast food / sugary snacks and drinks in the Bexleyheath Broadway during peak school times (7.30am - 9.30am and 2.30pm - 4.30pm)

Our own research with students indicate an increasing number of young people consuming fatty, sugary fast food, snacks and drinks immediately before and after school while in the Broadway. We believe the high volume of advertising is encouraging our young people to make unhealthy lifestyle choices which is having adverse affects to their health and life expectancy.

Thank you for your support in this vitally important social issue.
