Better rail services at Lockerbie Station and across Dumfries and Galloway

Colin Smyth, Member of the Scottish Parliament for South Scotland Region, is leading the fight for improved local rail services- and now he needs your help.

Colin recently launched a campaign at Lockerbie Railway Station calling for:

MORE SERVICES - including a direct early morning train from Lockerbie to Edinburgh, an end to the three-hour gap when there are no trains north from Lockerbie during the day, and more services at the weekend.

FAIRER FARES - ensuring that passengers from Lockerbie Station get the same discount deals available to other commuters in Scotland.

BETTER PARKING - with more car parking spaces at Lockerbie Station.

In addition, Colin was at the forefront of fighting attempts to cut direct rail services from Stranraer railway station. He has also demanded fairer fares on services on the Nith Valley line where passengers in Upper Nithsdale pay more per mile on trains to and from Glasgow than passengers a few miles away in Ayrshire. Colin is also Chairperson of the campaign to re-open Eastriggs Railway Station and is backing campaigns for new stations at Thornhill and Beattock as well as extending the Borders rail line through Langholm to Carlisle.

Colin Smyth said, “Local rail passengers are being treated as second class citizens. The failed UK Government franchise deal with rail companies, means more trains actually pass through Lockerbie station without stopping than actually stop. That’s why I’m fighting for rail improvements at Lockerbie and stations across Dumfries and Galloway. We need the UK Government to agree to re-open the current franchise deal with the rail companies and force them to increase the number of services from Lockerbie station. We also need the Scottish Government to intervene to ensure more fairness in rail fares. At present commuters from Lockerbie station are not entitled to the same discounted fares available in other parts of Scotland. We also need a solution to the problems of car parking at Lockerbie Station”
