Why this petition matters

Started by Roseena Doherty

The facilities already here in Donegal are out of date & to small to deal with the number of patients that need to use them. Donegal has 150,000+ population & a cancer ward that provides 11 beds... Cancer Patients SHOULD NOT have to leave this county to get chemotherapy elsewhere. Cancer Patients should not have to be treated in wards throughout the hospital by staff who aren't fully qualified in Cancer care, who have no idea about chemotherapy or its side effects. Cancer patients are now living longer and LUH has got a haematology/oncology day unit that has 10 available chairs for 30+ patients daily, a place where a patients gets chemotherapy, blood/platelet transfusions or other infusions like fluid, potassium etc.... alot of these infusions can mean a patients is in the unit up to 6 hours.

Letterkenny University Hospital needs an oncology/haematology ward with at the very least 30 beds and a Cancer Care Day Unit with 20+ chairs, what it already has is the very best of cancer care staff, consultants, doctors & number.

The people of this county deserve the best care and its up to the Minister for Health & the HSE to provide it.... We are fed up being pushed to the side and accepting 2nd best....
