BCSD School Board: Vote to keep neighborhood schools open

The Administration facilities plan should not be approved in its entirety. The community has expressed its desire over the past several years that they value our neighborhood schools and want to keep all schools open and updated with 21st century improvements.
Financial concerns are not at play here...Bettendorf is not experiencing declining enrollment, failing elementary schools, or budget shortfalls. In fact, they operate with 21% of the total budget remaining at the end of the year. There is no reason good enough to close these schools and build in a location that is farther away from either existing school.
New school buildings don't teach children...teachers teach children. BCSD should be investing in the quality and continued training of our teachers instead of investing in "shiny new buildings".
The Administration's plan is asking community members and taxpayers to choose between supporting neighborhood schools and supporting updated/new athletic facilities. These should not be pitted against each other. Both can be achieved with right planning.
Elementary schools provide the foundation of our children's education, are important centers within our neighborhoods, and draw young families into all parts of our city. For the future of our city and our communities, please sign to support keeping all of our elementary schools open.
