Help Stop the U.S. Education Budget Cuts

As a tax payer and rightful citizen, I am concerned about the investment in education of the United States. I share and believe in the commitment to ensuring that every child has access to a high quality education. However, I have serious concerns about the policy introduced H.R. 610, the Choices in Education Act of 2017 that directly affects the public school system. I understand that our property taxes are what fund the schools in our neighborhoods but my concern are the communities where there are low property values have low quality schools.
Educational attainment is tied to both individual success and the nation’s economic strength. When the value of public education is tied to the value of a community, it may be unfair for a good number of students. The students are not the tax payers and their education should not be tied to those who are. Those students who live in impoverished neighborhoods may have a low education. Funding that is stretched to capacity hinders the adequate education needed to be successful. The H.R. 610 bill supports the proposed educational budget which would eliminate 9.2 billion dollars from the current budget. Some of the consequences of this include staff (teacher) lay-offs, elimination of school programs, and after school programs.
As a tax payer, I am asking you to set education as a priority and vote no on the decision of the H.R. 610 bill and help make policies that help impoverished communities. The bottom line is that education is an investment- not only in education itself, but also in out economic and workforce development and the future success of our children and state.
Thank you for your time and consideration as well as your commitment to the education of our children.
