Say No to Concrete Plant Activity Allowed in Residential Zone

We, the residents of Bethlehem Township, request that the Bethlehem Township Zoning Board/Planning Board and Bethlehem Township Committee immediately seek a legal revocation of the non-conforming use on the property of 1087 Rt 173 for industrial use of a concrete operation and all associated uses. This property was granted a non-conforming use in a mountain residential zone, due to the previous use as a quarry and concrete facility. The quarry and concrete usage has been abandoned since at least 2008, over 10years, AND the facility has not been maintained in a capacity that allows it to be usable. Building have been torn down or have fallen down and all concrete batch equipment has fallen into disrepair. Therefore, we consider the previous owners of the property to have abandoned their right to a non-conforming usage. Since it has been so long since the plant was operable, there is a public expectation that there will be no more concrete activity at this site. We believe that there is legal merit and public benefit to the township revoking the non-conforming usage on this property and restoring the mountain residential area of the property to non-industrial and non-commercial zoning and allowable usage. The front portion of the property should remain commercially zoned.
