Michael Williams started this petition to Bethel Public Schools School Board and Superintendent

The Old Red Schoolhouse of the Bethel Public Schools in Bethel Acres, OK, has been a landmark for the community and its students. It has been in the school and community for over 40 years, built by Bethel students for use by future generations of Bethel students. It was used for decades as the Kindergarten classroom and was the first classroom for hundreds of kids, many with pictures taken on the steps and memories of being dropped off and picked up there by their family.

The 2020 School Bond announced that the building would be moved across the street both to make room for new elementary construction and to allow the building to be used as an alumni center, future school reunion center, and as a meeting house for the various booster clubs and organizations. This was stated in the questions and answers section of the bond documentation. The building can be moved as planned, but the school administration decided instead to demolish the building when told by a construction representative that they should destroy it and build a new structure (surprise, surprise). This decision was made by people with no emotional, life-long connection, or sentimentality to the building with no input from the community nor from alumni groups. This blatant disregard for our community is shameful and should not be allowed to take place.

Please indicate your frustration with this decision and help us to keep and preserve our Old Red Schoolhouse as our new (and first!) alumni center.
