Dependent children are not allowed to visit their laboring mothers during her hospital stay during COVID restrictions. Successful vaginal deliveries allow the mom to be discharged in 24 hours, but a c section could be a 4 day long hospital stay. Any complications could make the stay even longer.

Some mothers who have dependent children—especially young children such as toddlers—may have never been away from their mother for an extended time as such. Separating a mom from a young child for four days can be traumatic for both the mom and child. When the mom is primary caretaker for her children, she needs to be able to see them and not have taken from her for 1-4 days or more while she’s in labor. This could make her laboring experience more difficult, and lead to more health complications. It could also lead to trauma and stress for the child.

If people can go to workout classes, hold weddings, and meet In large groups of people with friends, there’s no reason children shouldn’t be able to visit their moms during their childbirth hospital stay. It may deeply effect the child as well as the mom who is in labor.
