Ban fireworks use in the City of Walla Walla except for the City's 4th of July event.

Fireworks are no longer just used on the 4th of July, they are now being used to celebrate sports events, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Christmas and New Years Eve and they are used for the days and weeks leading up to and beyond the event. The noise terrifies and endangers our domestic animals as well as local wildlife. Fireworks are a nuisance, a fire hazard and a danger to humans and other species. The noises are often similar to gunfire and bombs and are detrimental to the mental health of many members of our community who suffer from post traumatic stress.
Local law enforcement is often unable to locate those violating the laws already in place or unable to respond to the number of complaints they are receiving.
Therefore, we are petitioning the City of Walla Walla to follow the example set by many other communities and ban all sales of fireworks to the public and to ban the use by the public of all fireworks at all times. The only exception is that we do not wish to ban the fireworks display sponsored by the City, annually, on July 4th.
