Berrigan Shire Council is proposing the demolition of the Lawson Drive (Creek Foreshore) Playground and recreational space in Barooga to replace with parking spots. This is a family area adjoining the Bullanjinya Creek, National Park, Local Primary School and multiple residential areas.

It is currently constantly used by the local community and tourists. It is a wonderful family area that encourages families and individuals outdoors. The park includes activities suitable for toddlers through to teens. It is adjacent to a barbeque area that is perfect for outdoor events. Replacing the park with car parks is a preposterous idea that will have a negative impact on aesthetics of what is currently a beautiful location within our local area.

Within the Barooga area there are only two other parks which are located on the main road. Removal of this park would limit option for families, increase congestion of other parks and make park use for younger children including toddlers difficult.

Recent years have seen increased residential development within the Barooga township with an increase in the number of young families and children. Our council has failed to include recreational areas and parks within these new developments, instead proposing the removal of a existing park that is currently in good condition.

Council needs to change their redevelopment plan for the creek foreshore to maintain the current park, barbeque and recreational area. Parking redevelopment should be reconsidered to align with existing carparks i.e. extension of scout hall parking.
