Allow Berklee Students to Rehearse on Campus

The Berklee College of Music is a diverse and lively international community with a vibrant culture. We are a community of businesspeople, engineers, artists, and more, and most importantly, we are all musicians. Berklee is home to the cremé of the crop musicians from everywhere in the world - And we need to practice in order to stay that way!

There are a shortage of practice rooms available and this precludes us from achieving our fullest potential. The better we are, the better Berklee can be. Many apartment complexes have no noise policies - which means no practicing at home - and now, even the Berklee dorms have a no-practice policy indoors. The dorms also do not provide an adequate number of practice rooms for students to practice in. In addition to that, off campus students do not have access to the practice rooms inside the dorm buildings without a guest pass from a dorm resident.

We respectfully propose these requests:

1) Berklee should consider the addition of more practice rooms in campus buildings so students can rely on an opportunity to improve their craft or engage in projects with other musicians.

2) Dorm rooms should not have a no-practice policy so that students can practice safely in their rooms and also always have a place to practice. It is part of the on-campus experience to always hear music in the halls 24/7. As long as the community is respectful, more music in the atmosphere does not hinder anyone's success.

3) Off campus students should have access to certain dorm practice rooms (such as piano/keyboard rooms or ensemble rooms.)

Thank you for your special attention!
