Demand on-time compensation for workers in the Berkeley Student Cooperative

Demand on-time compensation for workers in the Berkeley Student Cooperative
Why this petition matters
The Berkeley Student Cooperative has no yet paid a significant majority of its workers for seven weeks, since the start of the Fall 2020 term. This issue is not particular to this semester; the BSC has consistently failed to compensate its workers on time and in full for several semesters with failed promises of payment and no offer of backpay.
The workers of the BSC acknowledge that Section #19 of the BSC Employee Handbook stipulates that workers will be compensated on a biweekly basis. The workers of the BSC further acknowledge that these practices are illegal under Article 210 of the California Labor Code. If workers are not compensated on time and in full, they are entitled to $100 of backpay for the initial violation, $200 of backpay for each subsequent violation, and may issue either a statutory or civil penalty if violations continue. It is fully within the rights of the BSC workers to demand our compensation as well as backpay for these illegal practices.
These issues undermine the integrity of the organization and its cooperative ideals. By signing this petition, you express support for the workers of the BSC and are calling on the BSC Central Office to compensate all workers on time and in full.
