Anton Migdal started this petition to Berkeley City Council

My name is Anton Migdal, and I am a sophomore at Berkeley High. Over the last 8 months, I have spent countless hours at the community mountain bike spot in the Berkeley hills. When I saw the notice that it was getting torn down this afternoon, I was devastated. This place is very close to my heart, and helped me with my mental health throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Before I found this place, I would spend all my time on youtube and the internet. This spot helped me get fresh air and decreased my screen time exponentially. Not only did it help me with time on electronic devices, I made tons of new friends, many of whom I now hold very close to my heart. We would go up to the spot to hang out and ride our mountain bikes, and it was an amazing activity to do during the pandemic. I don't know how I could have gotten through quarantine without it. After a few months of going up to mountain bike with my friends, we developed a tight knit community. This community started to grow, and now it is a tremendous part of my life. Instead of drinking alcohol and partying, we exercised in a fun way and spent time with friends. The city is going to destroy this spot, and it will have dramatic negative effects on our mental health. With all that is happening in our world, many others and I have found a way to get exercise and have fun. Please keep this community alive. Make this change possible.

Sincerely,

Anton Migdal
