The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to immediately suspend enforcement of clearing curbside parkways in the case of herb and vegetable gardens while the city makes a final determination on legalizing in-soil parkway gardens. We, the undersigned citizens of Berkeley, CA, express our desire for the Berkeley City Council to vote to immediately suspend enforcement of clearing our city's public curbside parkways in the case of herb and vegetable gardens until the city can make a final determination on legalizing in-soil parkway gardens. We believe this to be beneficial to our community because: 1) allowing gardeners to plant in parkways allows for utilization of land that would otherwise go to waste, 2) creating community-accessible gardens can allow community members access to nutritious and therapeutic plants they may not otherwise receive, 3) parkway gardens can help beautify the city and improve curb appeal.
