The children are sleeping on hard floor queuing up for food, no toilets or bathrooms, exposure to mosquitos, no immediate hope to resume school, no available funds for school fees, school materials, or adequate food to eat all because of FLOOD!
WHY? Silt in drainages, no enough drainage channels....and the rains are not done!
27 August 2017 in Makurdi, Benue State, the rains caused a serious flood which affected 81,921 persons from 2,769 households while sub merging or impacting 1,574 houses(data sheet by Benue sema).
This incident has caused a lot of problems and consequences on the affected individuals, and communities which in turn affects the human and economic development of the state and Nation at large. Homes have been destroyed, goods and foodstuffs damaged or flooded in 24 communities.
Schools have not been left out, materials, books, all flooded. This disrupts our education and learning system.
The problem we have in our state is lack of enough drainage channels and silting of other existing ones.
We need clean drainage channels, so we have to unclog and desilt the existing ones while advocating for the construction of more drainages.
