Bennett Park Dog Run

Please sign to show your support for a dog run at south end of Bennett Park! Given the increasing number of dogs in our neighborhood, a separate dog run would benefit all park users by keeping our park clean and allowing dog owners to let their dogs off leash in a designated fenced area outside of the perimeter of the park.
With the advent of official dog parks, the NYC Parks Department made its off-leash dog policy that where an official dog park exists in a park, there are no Off-leash Hours; dog owners must use the official dog park and not allow their dogs off-leash, even during 9pm-9am. However in parks without an official dog park, which constitute the vast majority of parks in NYC, with permission from the Parks Department, dog owners may allow their dogs off-leash from 9pm-9am but only while the park is open.
Although there are an increasing numbers of dogs in our neighborhood, Bennett Park has neither an off leash policy nor a dog park. There is adequate space for a dog park at the south end of the park between 183rd Street and the south end park fence. The wooded unused space would provide an ideal location for dogs to run in a fenced area, without adversely impacting the aesthetics or usable area of the park. As Bennett Park is small, providing a separate space for dogs outside the park perimeter would free up the park for use by residents, allow dogs to run and play without interfering with resident use, and help keep our park clean. Thank you.
