Why this petition matters

Benedictine Students affected by COVID-19 are being forced to take their classes online.  Students pay hefty amounts of money, take out loans, work 40+ hours to pay for school out of pocket, etc. to learn in a classroom setting.  We pay “technology fees” and various other student fees that aren’t even applicable to students while the school is closed for the spring semester of 2020.  Students should be reimbursed tuition because of this.  Commuters and off campus students were not given room and board reimbursement and it’s unfair to us that we pay tuition only for our classes to be 100% online.  It’s unfair to every student that we have to take our classes entirely online.  Certain students lack the mental focus to stare at their laptops for hours on end.  With the semester winding down, the pressure and anxiety of finals is dawning on all students.  There is no doubt there will be days where students will be on their laptops for more than 5 hours, which is undoubtedly unhealthy.  There are also students who have been personally affected by COVID-19 who are struggling to keep up with their classes as well as the ongoing pandemic.  Now those students are being punished for something out of their control.  Throwing away thousands of dollars worth of tuition.  That being said, ALL Benedictine Students should be eligible for some type of tuition reimbursement.
